Prime Minister Sunak and his wife Murthy lost more than £200m in their personal wealth last year as the value of Murthy’s stake in her father’s company plummeted.
In the latest Sunday Times Rich List, the couple’s fortune is estimated at around £529m, down from £730m a year ago. Murtis owns a small stake in Infosys, the $64 billion Indian IT giant. She owns less than 1 percent of the company, but its shares have fallen by about a fifth in the last year as investors fret over the future of India’s tech sector.
According to the report, there are 171 billionaires in the UK this year, six less than last year, but their total wealth has increased by 30.7 billion pounds to 683.9 billion pounds.
